Distance from your TRIO Newton apartment to one of biggest footwear collections around: steps
An iconic shoe store has found a new home — and it’s right at TRIO Newton. The Barn Family Shoe Store is now open at 229 Walnut St. on the ground floor of our brand-new apartment building. For TRIO Newton residents only steps now separate them from one of the most extensive collections of footwear in New England (happy shopping!).
We checked in with Manager Brendan Carrigan a few days after the ribbon-cutting ceremony to see what he likes about the TRIO Newton retail spot and what you can expect to find when you visit.
“It’s awesome,” says Brendan. “This gives us lots of visibility long-term and represents the next evolution of the store.”
TRIO Newton retail lineup begins to grow
The Barn Family Shoe Store is the first to join the TRIO Newton retail lineup. The grand opening in mid-October marked an exciting moment for the store that for more than 72 years occupied a location down the street.
“We love being part of something as opposed to being on our own,” Brendan says. “When the rest of the spaces are filled up, this will be a hotspot.”
Renowned for its customer service (a WCVB-TV segment featured Brendan fitting an elderly woman in her car when she couldn’t make it into the store herself), the Barn Family Shoe Store has built a devoted following.
Now, that fanbase — and new customers — will find an 8,500-square-foot shoe lovers’ haven. Floor-to-ceiling windows and soaring ceilings create an airy atmosphere, while meticulously organized rows and shelves put premiere brands and styles on display. Snow boots, wedges, heels, flats, clogs, sneakers — they are all here. And so are brands like UGG, Dansko, Sorel, Rockport, Acorn, and much more.
Matching casual wear
If you want to pair your latest purchase with matching apparel, you can. Bundle up with cozy headbands, neck warmers, mittens, and gloves by Turtle Fur and The North Face. Pick out high-tech moisture-wicking fabrics from Under Armor or Nike (perfect for that December jog to Edmands Park). Select silhouette-shaping business casual attire from Royal Robbins, Prana, and Toad & Co.
So, what does Brendan think of TRIO Newton?
“I love it,” he says. “The guys in charge of this development are locals which makes me even happier to be part of it. They will always do what’s right for the neighborhood.”
Come visit the Barn Family Shoe Store and stay tuned for more news on TRIO Newton retail stores. Here’s to another 72 years in business!
