MIDA, Clover Food Lab, The Barn Family Shoe Store…look what’s opening at TRIO in Newton.
The good news keeps coming at TRIO in Newton. With our first residents moving in, we are entering the next phase. First in line: The Barn Family Shoe Store is set to premiere in October. Then, two of our favorite restaurants are poised to begin construction for their anticipated 2021 openings.
Here’s a closer look at what you can expect when it comes to ground-floor retail, best new restaurants, and other exciting developments at TRIO in Newton.
The Barn Family Shoe Store: A perfect fit
The Barn Family Shoe Store is a Newton staple. Two years since its 70-year (!) anniversary, the legendary store is on the move — and it’s coming straight to the ground floor of TRIO Newton. At 8,500 square feet, there’s ample room to browse the extensive collections. Clarks, Sorel, UGG, Cole Haan, Rockport, Timberland — you find all the biggest brands in both footwear and apparel at The Barn Family Shoe Store.
For weather-resistant shoes for long neighborhood walks (Pick up a cup of java at George Howell Coffee across the street) to moisture-wicking knit tops (Next stop: the spin studio at TRIO Newton), just head downstairs.
President Joe Carrigan says:
“We are confident that our new location will offer customers greater convenience and an improved shopping experience while also contributing to the vitality of Newtonville.”
We couldn’t agree more.
MIDA: Pasta wizardry
“In the South End, Mangia Pasta Monday is a huge hit,” reads a recent headline in the Boston Globe. The idea belongs to MIDA and Chef Douglass Williams, also known as the “pasta wizard” in Food & Wine Magazine. Now, Williams — named one of the Top 10 Best New Chefs in America this year by the same publication — is planning on bringing his magic to TRIO Newton. Yes, MIDA is coming to Washington Street in Newtonville!
Scheduled to open in the spring of 2021, MIDA will bring its signature Italian flavors and warm neighborhood ambiance to within steps of your TRIO Newton apartment. After the success in the South End, MIDA is no stranger to being named among the best new restaurants in Boston.
“To put this little corner of Mass Ave. and Tremont Street on the map, is incredible,” Williams said this summer following news of the best new chef accolade.
Who’s ready to guess he will do the same with his new TRIO Newton venture?
Clover: On a green mission
Cooks, environmentalists, and storytellers building a better future. That’s how the team at Clover Food Lab defines themselves on Facebook. At the heart of it all is, of course, good food. And, here’s the good news: In the not so distant future — think 2021 — Clover is slated to open its doors at TRIO in Newton. Since 2008, the vegetarian fast-food restaurant has grown from a single food truck to a dozen locations across Greater Boston.
The brainchild of an MIT grad and a Harvard MBA, Clover is on a mission to help shrink the ecological footprint of the food industry by making fresh, local, sustainable vegetarian food as common and convenient as the fare at places like Burger King. Recent Yelp critics raved about the chickpea fritters, Baja mushroom platter, spicy sweet potato salad, and eggplant sandwich — all served with compostable utensils and takeout boxes.
When the best new restaurants in Newton are announced, count on Clover to make the list.
TRIO Newton Model Unit: It’s open!
